We join the nation in mourning the loss of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a giant whose courage and vision transformed the fight for civil rights and justice. From marching with Dr. King in Selma to founding Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition, Reverend Jackson’s life was defined by an unyielding commitment to equality. He championed voting rights, led efforts to register millions of Black voters, and stood up for workers, the poor, and the marginalized. He brokered the release of hostages overseas, fought tirelessly against apartheid, and expanded the possibilities for Black political leadership with his groundbreaking presidential campaigns, showing generations that their voices and votes matter.
At Black Voters Matter, we are committed to carrying forward the values Reverend Jackson embodied: empowerment, dignity, and unity. His drive for coalition-building and his advocacy have shaped our work and inspired the broader movement for justice. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who were touched by his extraordinary life. His legacy endures in every fight for equality and every step we take toward a democracy that truly includes us all.
