THE BLACKEST BUS IN AMERICA
Our “We Won’t Black Down” campaign and bus tour is democracy in action! Black Voters Matter put the Blackest buses in America back on the road for a 12-state tour that made stops throughout the South and Midwest engaging with Black voters, policymakers, faith- based leaders, Black influencers, and HBCU students.
To mark this historic anniversary, advocacy organizations from across the nation came together to reenact the full Selma-to-Montgomery March beginning Sunday, March 6th – the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee – and concluding with a rally at the Alabama State Capitol on Friday, March 11th. To continue our movement, Black Voters Matter hosted several miles of the March on March 9th, 2022. This is our moment to ensure voting rights remain front and center at this historic event.
To honor the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Rides from Washington D.C. throughout the South, a movement that challenged segregation in America in the 1960s, Black Voters Matter, along with several national and local partner organizations, announced the “Freedom Ride for Voting Rights” 2021. This voting rights campaign and bus tour focused on engaging Black voters to build Black voting power across the South in the wake of Jim Crow-era voter suppression bills moving through state legislatures throughout the country meant to diminish the progress of Black voters in the recent elections.
