Black Voters Matter stands with our friends and allies at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and all organizations under attack for protecting the rights and dignity of our communities. Let’s be clear: what we’re witnessing is a full-scale assault on civil rights, with the SPLC as the latest target. This administration knows that in order to consolidate absolute power, it must dismantle the very organizations that protect people from hate and discrimination.
This isn’t just about organizations getting targeted, it’s about a coordinated attack on our rights, our history, and our people. When you see civil rights groups like SPLC in the line of fire, just know it’s bigger than them. It’s an attack on every one of us fighting for justice and dignity.
For decades, SPLC has put in the work — tracking hate, challenging bigotry, and standing up even when it puts them in danger. That’s the kind of courage we need now more than ever, because the threats we’re facing aren’t just headlines; they show up in our neighborhoods, at the polls, in our schools, and in the laws meant to protect us. Rolling back civil rights doesn’t just hurt organizations; it hurts the communities we are fighting to protect.
Speaking out and fighting back isn’t a crime. It’s necessary. They want us to be scared, to keep our heads down, to stop organizing and speaking truth. We’re not going for that. When they come for one of us, they come for all of us and we answer together.
