In response to President Trump’s address to the nation last night, Black Voters Matter issued the following statement:
Last night, President Trump addressed the nation and recycled his debunked lies about the 2020 election while casting doubt on upcoming midterms. There was nothing new shared, except for the administration generously releasing evidence that affirms the previous Russian interference in support of Trump. We are thankful that the amorality of this regime is matched only by its incompetence.
Black Voters Matter sees this for what it is —a power grab—and we are not distracted. We’re organizing because lies that are left unchallenged can still cause damage. Trump’s lies, combined with a partisan Supreme Court, encouraged Southern legislatures to swiftly carry out his orders to redraw Black voters and other voters of color out of representation. And states such as North Carolina are making it easier for partisan, anti-Black election officials to throw away ballots.
This is why the John Lewis Good Trouble Lives On weekend of action that launches today, and which Black Voters Matter is sponsoring along with hundreds of other organizations, is so critical. (freedomsummer2026.com)
This moment should also serve as a reminder of why there must be a renewed fight for federal protections, state-level Voting Rights Acts, and a Constitution that guarantees representation instead of leaving it up to whoever controls the Court.
So ignore the lies, make a plan for midterms, get prepared to defend the election results that they will try to steal, and let’s reimagine how we will redesign this democracy as the new architects. Our voices have the power, and the truth is on our side.
