“Last night, the people stood up for democracy and won. As we celebrate our collective win, we thank Black voters and our allies who made it clear to Trump and his Republican lapdogs that their agenda does not represent us, our values, or the future we’re building together.
From the wins of progressive and pro-democracy candidates in Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and New York, to the success of Proposition 50 in California, it is clear that we have the power to fight back against an authoritarian takeover and demand free and fair elections. This victory belongs to the people who organized, showed up, and proved once again that when we work together, we win.
More than that, it is clear that voters will turn out in droves for the issues they care about if they are meaningfully engaged, inspired, and mobilized, as we witnessed historic turnout and firsts across states including at least five Black women elected mayor of major cities. Black voters and younger voters turned out in large numbers, determined to move our country forward.
We know the work doesn’t stop here. This moment’s energy must carry us forward because real change won’t come from simply voting blue or softening the worst of the Trump administration. It comes from bold organizing, radical reimagination, and the collective power of our communities.
From here, we must work to enlighten and encourage more people from outside the fringes, who have been historically left out or misunderstood, to come in and build a bigger tent, because we are past reverting to politics as usual. We need to rid ourselves of a democratic process with white supremacists disguised as a legitimate political party. But we also must dismantle the complacency and complicity of Democrats, hellbent on the status quo, who have taken Black and marginalized voters for granted and ignored their vision and pleas for real change.”
